Research Geologist (Graduate or Experienced)

Cornwall Mining Consultants is seeking an enthusiastic and conscientious Research Geologist (either recent Graduate or with experience) to join our Mining Searches team.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in Geological, Environmental or Archaeological sciences and be passionate about Cornwall and it's mining history.

Skills required:

• Basic geological understanding of South West region.
• Experience with QGIS, ArcGIS or similar.
• Map reading/geological mapping.
• Proficient with Ms Office suite.
• Team player and good communicator.
• Attention to detail and conscientious approach essential.

Beneficial experience but not essential (training will be provided):

• Interpretation of underground mine plans and historic documents.
• Theoretic or practical knowledge of mine and/or geological surveying.
• Manipulation and interpretation of satellite and aerial images.
• Application of digital datasets in GIS.

The successful candidate will be trained to research historic mining archive documents; interpret complex mine plans and geological records; appraise aerial and satellite data and predict areas of likely mining subsidence. You will be working in a varied and experienced team producing mining search reports and detailed desk studies for sites throughout the South West. The work is office based with field excursions when the opportunity arises.
