Full Job Description

We are seeking two Research Associates who can contribute to a project using Bayesian modelling, applied to child protection risk prediction data.

One post requires knowledge of Bayesian modelling, applied to population and/or administrative datasets.

The second post requires a social science researcher with data collection and processing skills.

The Risk of Risk, funded by the ESRC, investigates methods by which arithmetic systems of risk prediction in child protection can potentially be improved. The project’s focus is particularly on systems of automated risk prediction including those provided by commercial providers.

The roles would suit post-doctoral researchers, looking to gain experience on a funded, multi-disciplinary project. Led by lawyer-linguists, the project seeks to contribute to the growing body of knowledge in respect of the limits of artificial intelligence and predictive systems in complex human interactions.

The project is based in the Centre for Language and Law at Aston and the successful applicants will join a thriving research environment in the Centre, which is attached to the Aston Institute for Forensic Linguistics.

Please note we process sensitive data originating in legal contexts and exposure to potentially disturbing content may be an integral part of your work on some of the projects. Where this is the case, we provide appropriate support as part of our commitment to ethical research.
